US Strikes Iran Again as Ceasefire Collapses, IRGC Hits Gulf Bases
The fragile US-Iran ceasefire has broken down in a rapid exchange of military strikes. US Central Command announced it conducted strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar installations, after a second commercial vessel was struck near the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes on social media, saying Iran had been given a chance to honor the ceasefire agreement but 'elected not to,' and warning that the US may be 'forced to militarily complete the job we successfully started.'
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by launching ballistic missiles and drones at the US Army's Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Naval Fleet at Port Salman in Bahrain. The IRGC also claimed it had destroyed eight US military installations across Bahrain and Kuwait, and warned that ships violating Iran's Hormuz passage norms would face harsher action. Air raid sirens sounded in both Kuwait and Bahrain during the exchange. The IRGC's navy also announced separate strikes on US targets at Sirik and Qeshm Island.
The escalation has drawn immediate political backlash in Washington, with Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna condemning the renewed strikes as a violation of a congressional measure intended to limit further military action without lawmaker approval. The situation represents a significant deterioration from the initial ceasefire framework and raises acute concerns about the security of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical oil transit chokepoints. The risk of further escalation remains high, with Trump's rhetoric leaving open the possibility of a broader military campaign against Iran.
